Driving for dollars

The wheels on the Lyft go… The number one go to side hustle is gig work. The number one gig work is (probably) driving around. I’ve done this myself. It’s not a bad gig if you don’t mind driving and meeting randos.

Often these drivers barely make minimum wage. So I set out on a mission for you (the drivers). How can you maximize your income while providing such a great service?

I took many rides (for science) to see what everyone is doing to increase their income. Here’s what I found:

Drivers have about 4 different options to increase their income:

• CarGo $100/mo

• Firefly $300/mo

• Play Octopus $100/mo

• Wrapify $400/mo

CarGo

Used to be a mobile vending machine essentially (they have since shut down). But you can still recreate this. This one does take a little more work as you will need to go to the store and pick up the items. But all you would need to do is provide a menu sheet on the back of the seat with a QR code to your Venmo.

I estimate this will bring you in about $100/mo

Firefly

Become a driving billboard! Pretty straight forward here, you attach this ad on top of your car and get paid out for how many miles you drive. Naturally more miles = more dollars.

I asked a full time driver who had this what he makes and he said between $250 - $300/mo, this is also what the internet confirms as well.

Play Octopus

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to get the high score on these things only to find out some sort of super genius is riding Lyfts crushing the leaderboards. It’s a conspiracy and I think it goes all the way to the top. ANYWAYS, these are tablets that you can play on the back of head rests, they’ll throw in some ads to generate revenue and an honestly fun way to pass the time in your ride.

This will bring you an extra $100/mo

Wrapify

Entering your final form. Wrapify wraps your car in an ad, which is the highest revenue generator here. Depending on how much you want to wrap your car; 180, 270 or 360, you get paid for more wrapping. I’m not sure if get to choose what your car gets wrapped in, so good luck if the erectile dysfunction ad gods pay you a visit 🍆 

In conclusion, you can add a whopping $1k/mo adding all of these… ads together. It may take some time, about a month or two to get everything set up.

Viability:

It all ads up… these are super easy to do. Once you set up, you’ll be generating about $1k/mo extra being a walking billboard. There may be “newer” car requirements to be eligible for every service.

(As usual each business will have it’s own setbacks, and it’s all about the execution and consistency rather than just having the idea 😉)
