King of the (bouncy) Castle

the secret $150k/yr backyard business

Welcome to Ghost Business - where business ideas go to launch šŸš€ or die ā˜ ļø

Bouncy bounces back

(sorry for the delay 😵 I was sick for the last week, but I’m back!)

(ALSO These will be moving to 2 days a week, I’ll see you Tuesdays and Fridays starting next week)

Turns out money smells like… feet? Bouncies are bouncing back with force. Since Covid, the party rental industry has become a $6b/yr industry. What may have been a significant memory in our childhood, became long forgotten in our teens and 20s. But then your 30s hit like a rubber ducky in a tsunami and you find yourself with kids that need entertaining.

Turns out bouncies are good business. They are marketable to multiple groups, relatively safe in the industry, and hold their value well.

Turns out a lot of people like them too

  • The city: Cities will rent these out fairs and festivals in town. You can guarantee almost 4-6 events per year through the city.

  • School is cool: Schools will book these for their events for kids locking in another 1-2 bookings per year

  • Birthday cake: Of course, you have birthdays happening year round.

But wait there’s more… Turns out the market is way bigger than youngsters. Adults are getting in on the action too. Obstacle courses, sumo wrestling, and inflatable foosball are popular bookings for inflatables.

The End Goal

King of the bounce… Having a full fleet of bouncies at your disposal is the goal. 1-5 products that can serve all demographics. Something for small kids, teens, adults, and finally the most lucrative customer segment, degenerates.(you know who you are)

Being the ā€œBounce Guyā€ gives you a leg up in the bounce wars. If you’re able to cater to all demographics, you can provide entertainment for kids, their parents, and their drunk uncles.

You would need a large house or storage to house your castles. And quality matters. There’s a huge difference between residential and commercial bounce houses.

  • Commercial is typically much larger and built with stronger materials.

  • The manufacturer's warranty is also better with commercially built bouncies

  • Your insurance liability will be lower with higher quality materials

The MVP

Your castle has an HOA? Depending on where you live, target THAT demographic. If you live in a quiet family friendly neighborhood, start with a kids castle. If you’re in a bachelorette destination, start with a penis adult bouncy. If you live by a recreational sports location, try an obstacle course.

Target what is in your community already so you don’t have to travel far for business. (travel cuts significantly into your time and expenses) This also allows you to advertise locally which can have a significant ROI (return on investment).

Starting with $0

  • Find a bouncy for sale in your area

  • Market the bouncy to the right demographic

  • Give quotes to interested customers

  • Purchase the bouncy AFTER you book your first sale

  • Use the sale proceeds to buy your bouncy

  • Rinse and repeat

Scaling Up

The natural progression would be to add more bouncies to your fleet and up-charge for your current inventory.

To up-charge, I would add fun accessories (sumo outfits), combo deals (use more than one at a time), competitive styles (bubble ball)

Once you hit your stride in your current area, you can begin expanding to nearby cities and adding employees.

Better yet start competitive leagues and events in your area, while also charging for using the inventory.

For example:

  1. Start a Bubble Ball league

  2. Earn income per team

  3. Earn income for use of equipment

  4. Retire šŸš€

Viability:

1 [building spaceships] šŸš€ to 5 [easy peasy] 😊

This is easy peasy. The hardest part would be storing and maintaining your inventory. But once you get the hang of it, your job becomes maintaining customer relationships and growing your inventory.

Since this is a low barrier to entry, your competition will be out there as well. Figure out what sets you apart, own a niche in this space, and dominate.

As usual each business will have it’s own setbacks, and it’s all about the execution and consistency rather than just having the idea šŸ˜‰

It’s a great day to be great!

Love, Mike
