Boo bucks… If bills, taxes, fed rate hikes and Monday’s don’t scare you, you probably like haunted houses. It’s a great way to show your significant other your braveness or just to use them as a human shield for the night.

But human shield sacrifices aside, haunted houses can bring in insanely creepy dollars. Like $1m in a month creepy 😳 

I first learned how much they could make while listening to my favorite pod My First Million. They broke down the economics of this business and how to build it.

The one they covered takes about $150k to build out and makes $1M in the month of October, but lets start small and build our way out!

How they do this is GENIUS.

1. Find a house for sale in the good neighborhood

2. Reach out to the owners asking if they’d let you “rent” it for the month for $10k

3. “Haunt” it out for $100k

4. Charge anywhere between $30 and $50 per person (more as it gets closer to halloween)

5. Make $1m in a month

So bring a diaper (in case you 💩 yourself) we’re going to scare up some bucks and do a haunted house Ghost Business style 🎃 

The MVP (Getting your first customer)

Scare room… Instead of a haunted house, let’s start with a haunted… room? We’re going to build out the scariest f🤬cking room you can imagine.

I’m talking weekend responsibilities, extremely long texts and flat tires on your way to work scary.

This can be done 1 of 2 ways in my opinion:

1. Obvious would be a haunted theme escape room.

2. Make one very instagrammable for people to take pictures in, with a scary person in the room (kinda like Santa)

Charge a nominal fee depending on your set up ~$30 for a escape room and $15 for a just photo ready scary room.

How much would this cost to set up:

• Escape or scary room: $1,000

Getting Your Next 100 Customers

The influencers are coming… but its a good thing. Invite them to check out your scare room. Scare up some business by adding this to an Airbnb experience and Eventbrite.

Let some local photographers know they can book out the room for a small fee if people want to do photoshoots.

Make sure your home and neighborhood can handle the foot traffic!

So how much can this scare hustle make?

• If you’re running an escape room give people 30 minutes ($30/person)

• If you’re doing a photo friendly scare room give people 10 minutes ($15/person)

• If you’re open 4 hours a day, 3 days a week

  • $240/day for the escape room

  • $360/day for the photo friendly one

Viability:

1 [building spaceships] 🚀 to 5 [easy peasy] 😊 

Too scary… This is just plain hard. You have to put down a big payment, decorate, then also have people in and out of your house hours a day.

No thanks.

Scaling up to the $1M per month might be a little harder than expected on this one 😅 

(As usual each business will have it’s own setbacks, and it’s all about the execution and consistency rather than just having the idea 😉)
